Congratulations!
Health Manager service was highly commended in the Prince Philip Award
We are proud that our new Health Manager service was highly commended in the Prince Philip Award at the Dairy Event in its new glitzy NEC venue. Three of us were invited by the RABDF to meet Prince Philip in person to receive the award.
Along with winners XL Vets for their Farmskills training workshops, Kingshay’s Managing Director Duncan Forbes, Development Director Richard Simpson and Farm Services Manager Kathryn Buckland went to Buckingham Palace on a chilly 1st December.
After our visit to the Palace, we were invited to have lunch in the House of Lords with Lord Henry Plumb whose passion for farming shines bright in the corridors of power.
Since the award, Health Manager has gone from strength to strength. As well as offering the service to farmers and vets, we are monitoring all the conventional Waitrose dairy suppliers as part of their health initiative. Health Manager is designed to take existing recording systems, such as Interherd, and interrogate the data into easy to read reports that can be sent to all those involved in day-to-day herd management.
Initial results show fertility to be the largest cost factor (group average 4.3 ppl) and where the biggest potential savings can be achieved. For example, small changes to the cow environment can improve bulling activity, making it easier to spot cows bulling – even those with a short bulling cycle. Results show little correlation between yield and fertility. High yielding herds over 9000 litres per cow can still maintain a calving interval below 410 days.
