Effective management of farmyard manure (FYM) to minimise the risk of pollution and maximise financial benefits requires a practical and cost effective strategy. Composting FYM before spreading can improve the flexibility of FYM management.
The agronomic benefits of composting include a reduction in material mass and water content, pathogen suppression, weed seed kill and the production of a stabilised organic material that is easier to spread.
