The wide range in the number of cases between farms of similar size is substantial (from 20 to 100 cases per 100 cows per year). This illustrates the enormous scope to reduce the number of clinical cases and obtain a rapid return on time and effort committed. Mastitis is a complex and painful condition, which costs the milk production industry in excess of £200m annually. For each case, the cost of treatment and value of milk lost is £205, which, with 40 cases per 100 cows per year on average amounts to some £11,500 for a typical 140-cow herd.
This Workshop will help you:
- Learn how to develop a practical and profitable herd health strategy for your farm
- Prevent mastitis infections
- Improve milking hygiene
- Identify cows carrying infection
- Understand subclinical mastitis
The Workshop runs from 10.45am - 3pm (lunch included) and is open to all dairy farmers and farm staff. Morning Discussion and On Farm after Lunch
