Calf Scours
Diarrhoea or ‘scours’ is one of the leading causes of mortality in pre-weaned calves, particularly in the first month of life. The cost of an outbreak of scour can average £33 per at risk calf, but may cost five times that, when calves die as a result of scour (Defra, 2008). This Farming Note considers the main causes and how to reduce the prevalence on your calf unit.
