Contract Heifer Rearing Farming Note
Contract heifer rearing involves setting up an agreement with another farmer to rear your heifers rather than doing it yourself. This frees up time and capital, allows you to concentrate on the dairy herd and offers the opportunity for expansion, whilst ensuring your heifers are being properly reared. There are however some potential weaknesses of such a system, such as opportunity for disease spread.
This Farming Note covers:
- Heifer rearing costs
- Deciding to enter a contract
- Costs of contracts
- Considerations when writing up a contract
If you need help to set up a heifer rearing contract, give us a call on 01458 851 555.
Issued February 2013.
