Mycoplasma Farming Note

Mycoplasma is a bacterial infection and a major cause of calf pneumonia in the UK. Usually introduced via bought-in cattle, it is not instantly recognisable. Mycoplasma is also suspected as a more important cause of mastitis and some other common cattle ailments than previously thought. This is essential reading for any dairy farmer who is not already familiar with this disease.

This Farming Note covers:

  • What mycoplasma is and how it is transmitted
  • Common cattle ailments that can be caused by mycoplasma
  • Diagnosis, treatment and control strategies

Issued November 2013.
