Latest from Kingshay

At Kingshay . . .

Maize harvesting of this year’s variety trial is well underway.  The Ilminster site was harvested on the 29th September with yields ranging from 15-23t freshweight per acre.  Full details of dry matter yields and crop quality will be in the report, in the December mailing.

Last week Peter, Emma and Laura attended a mobility scoring training day hosted by DairyCo.  Regular, consistent mobility scoring allows early detection of lameness and is now a requirement of many milk contracts and assurance schemes.

Kingshay’s HowsMyMobility service provides regular on-farm scoring.  If this is something you may be interested in, call the Technical Team in the office on 01458 851 555 for details.

Heat Detection Tried & Tested Report featuring results from the Heat Detection Survey

Poor reproductive performance is a major loss of income to dairy producers and is often overlooked because it mainly involves indirect costs.  One of the main reasons for herd fertility decline is the time available for heat detection, due to reducing man-hours per cow.  The survey results confirm that fertility aids are an essential aid to heat detection on farms, regardless of milk production system. Members provided feedback covering most aids currently on the market and the results are detailed in the enclosed report.
