Monthly Dairy Costings Overview

The latest June figures for Kingshay herds are beginning to show a positive increase in milk price compared to previous months. June 2026 saw milk prices average 34.16ppl (May 2026 milk prices averaged 33.91ppl) although this is still 22% lower than the same time last year when prices averaged 43.91ppl. The increase in milk price is following a market response of several factors including several heatwaves and the driest July since records began affecting most of the UK, causing milk supplies to slow. Feed prices are also starting to rise alongside fuel and fertiliser due to the ongoing war in the Middle East.

Milk from forage averaged 10 litres/cow/day, a 5% increase compared with June 2025.

June 2026 milk yields have remained similar at 27.8 litres/cow/day compared with the same month last year. Concentrate prices averaged £300/tonne for June 2026, 1% lower than the same month last year.

The average margin over purchased feed for the month was £173 per cow, a steep decrease of 28% compared to the same month last year.

Rolling trends for the year ending June 2026 include:

• Concentrate use per cow was up 1.2% compared to last year at 3013kg/cow.
• Margin over purchased feed per litre was down 13.4% on last year to 28.43ppl.
• Bulk cell counts decreased to 151 (‘000).
• Yields averaged 8,988 litres per cow, increasing by 4.1% compared to the 12 months ending June 2025.
• Milk from forage was up 11.5% compared to the preceding 12 months to 2,725 litres per cow, providing 30% of total yield.
• Purchased feed costs were 11.18ppl, a decrease of 3.3% compared to last year, with concentrate prices of £297/tonne compared to £307/tonne in the previous year.
• Milk price was down by 10.8% to 39.61ppl compared to the same month last year.
