Getting Maize Off to a Good Start Dairy Insight
Maize can be a valuable feed on dairy farms, providing a reliable source of starch to balance the protein in grass silage. However, with rising input costs, it is not a cheap crop to grow. Getting the basics right is therefore critical. Optimising soil conditions, choosing the right variety, drilling at the correct time and using fertiliser inputs accurately all play a key role in helping maize reach its yield potential. When done well, good establishment delivers both high output and tighter cost control, protecting the profitability of the dairy enterprise.
This Dairy Insight publication highlights best practice for getting maize off to the best possible start.
